About Me

My photo
Growing up I filled my schedule with dance classes, in every variation of dance. Searching for a costume was one of my favorite tasks each year. I would pay close attention to the story it told and how it would move on the stage. Would it complete the story that I was trying to tell with the dance? That same excitement followed me to love the fashion industry. I like to think of the whole story that is being told and how the movement of the clothes is the language. Just like dance is an art form, I look at fashion as an art and not simply a business.

Art vs Fashion: The Climb to the Top

Today we were able to climb to the top of the Mariae Nascenti which is the Duomo di Milano. The architecture was incredible as this “Gothic cathedral took 500 years to build and is the second largest Catholic cathedral in the world.” 1 It was overwhelming to see all of its beauty and to see the city from up above. For my Art Vs. Fashion piece, I chose a picture that I took at the entrance. It is of overlaying leaves on a tree branch. The detailing of each of the pieces that was carved into the stone is extraordinary. This is something that may inspire the detailing on a wedding dress. Johanna Ho, a designer from New York, designed a dress for the Bridal Fall/Winter 2011 season that has this same layer detail. The bodice of the dress has small-layered leaves that match the leaves of the Mariae Nascenti.
