About Me

My photo
Growing up I filled my schedule with dance classes, in every variation of dance. Searching for a costume was one of my favorite tasks each year. I would pay close attention to the story it told and how it would move on the stage. Would it complete the story that I was trying to tell with the dance? That same excitement followed me to love the fashion industry. I like to think of the whole story that is being told and how the movement of the clothes is the language. Just like dance is an art form, I look at fashion as an art and not simply a business.

A Drive Through The Country

On our way to Florence this morning, we stopped in at the G2 Tessuti Iannuzzi textile factory and mill. We met with Samantha who handles all of steps and paperwork to and from customers throughout the process, Walter who is the agent that shows each collection in America, and the owner Marco. Currently they are working on the Fall/Winter collection of fabrics, as it is the most important season for the factory.

They show each collection two times and year and the designers then pick the fabric they want. The factory sends the designer sample yards that they are able to work with to see if they like the quality and feel. Designers are then able to put in an order of color and amount with a minimum of 300 – 500 yards.

G2 works with more medium to high level designers such as Alexander Wang, Theory, Armani, Burberry and Phillip Lim. In order to take big orders, they depend on 2 -3 years of small orders to ensure the customer is a reliable one. They are able to design patterns by the experience they have, following trends, and really paying attention to what their customers want.

They showed us samples of the collections and took us into the factory to see the looms weaving the fabric. They also showed us how they are able to design a pattern on the computer and have it sent to the machines on the looms. They also brought us into a room that they check all of the weaves to make sure they are correct and put together the swatches to give to their customers.

It was a wonderful experience to see first hand the hard work and dedication that goes into creating the fabric of our clothes. There are many different steps and it takes a long time, however without a dedicated company such as G2, the fashion industry would not be able to produce the way it does today.
