After some scheduling difficulties, we finally got to meet with new upcoming Italian designer Vladimiro Gioia. Currently he is working on his first Spring/Summer collection that mostly consists of leathers and silks. He grew up in a family owned fur and leather factory in Italy and has always been influenced by the colors around him. He describes his brand as a mix between luxury for woman 30 years and up who can afford it but also street wear for the styling of 20 year olds.
Through the translations of Maria Chiara Arona, Vladimiro was able to describe his process through-out creating his collection. He first sketches for months and thinks of colors that inspire him. He believes this is the most creative part where he can truly use his freedom. After he has plenty of designs, he starts to work with the materials and has some of the most difficult time with natural materials. At this point he has to make changes that keep his creativity but also bring the garment to reality so it is wearable. As he is creating he doesn't have a specific women in mind but an imaginary women. After however, he can see someone such as Madonna in his collection. To Vladimiro, it is most beautiful and rewarding to see his hard work of creating the collection in important shops and magazines.

Vladimiro Gioia is a true Italian, as he only uses materials from Italy and starts and finishes the whole production process in Italy. He tries not to follow trends, but instead create his own path by using a mix of materials, such as Swarovski crystals on fur or leathers. He tries to not stray too far from what commercial says as he consults with many top designers. Vladimiro was able to tell us he worked with a designer who created the look for Madonna at the
2011 Vanity Fair Oscars Party.

Karl Lagerfeld along with Versace have had a big influence on how Vladimiro designs because of their traditional but innovative sense. He hopes to expand and create a collection for men in Fall/Winter 2013/2014 season. Before we left for this amazing adventure, we sent Vladimiro designs for the marketing campaign for his brand. My group along with Anna Monteith and Brittany Molesky designed a bag that will be going into production and used as his brand grows. Vladimiro Gioia shows amazing promise and I'm very happy to say that I have the opportunity to work with him!
