About Me

My photo
Growing up I filled my schedule with dance classes, in every variation of dance. Searching for a costume was one of my favorite tasks each year. I would pay close attention to the story it told and how it would move on the stage. Would it complete the story that I was trying to tell with the dance? That same excitement followed me to love the fashion industry. I like to think of the whole story that is being told and how the movement of the clothes is the language. Just like dance is an art form, I look at fashion as an art and not simply a business.

Pitti Uomo Market

Yesterday we had the amazing opportunity to go to the Pitti Uomo Market. This is an event that vendors show their men’s collections to buyers from all around the world. This event really is a major part in the Men’s Fashion Week in Italy.

Each vendor has their own visuals for showing their collections. The visuals ranged from simple mannequins or stands to elaborate tubs, sewing machines, and other ways of representing their merchandise. The types of items that were shown at the event were clothing, accessories, suits, shoes, cuff links, scarves, hats, bags, and many other items.

Most of the merchandise was of bright colors and Italian made. The buyers were touching the clothes and trying them on for fit. They were asking about the various colors and sizes they were available in. Some of the vendors were even sizing the buyers to show how the suits may fit their customers.

In the market there were multiple buildings and each one had their own style from chic, urban, nautical or preppy. All of the people greeted each other as if they were old friends meeting up again and no one seemed as if they were in a rush either.

I had never been to a market and it was very exciting to see what is talked about in class, in real life. I had never really thought about being a buyer, but as we walked slowly through each building a very energized feeling overwhelmed my body. Seeing how everyone was interacting and getting to see trends that would be the next Spring/Summer season was a privilege.
