About Me

My photo
Growing up I filled my schedule with dance classes, in every variation of dance. Searching for a costume was one of my favorite tasks each year. I would pay close attention to the story it told and how it would move on the stage. Would it complete the story that I was trying to tell with the dance? That same excitement followed me to love the fashion industry. I like to think of the whole story that is being told and how the movement of the clothes is the language. Just like dance is an art form, I look at fashion as an art and not simply a business.

Fashion vs. Art: Sforza Castle

Yesterday at Sforza Castle we had the opportunity to explore different rooms that featured historical dishes, musical instruments, religious items and more. An old piano really caught my eye and I thought it could be used as inspiration for a designer. The translation stated that it was an upright shaped brace piano from an unknown author. It was made between the year 1815 and 1820 in the Viennese School.

Through the shape of the silhouette and designs of the pattern, I thought the dress from Santa Ephigenia’s Spring/Summer 2012 season reflected well of the piano. The shape of the top of the piano looks as if it is a one-shoulder silhouette, such as the dress.  The way the piano curves at the very top also was reflected in the piece at the very shoulder of the garment. The lines and circles of the geometric pattern can also be seen in the detailing of the piano in black and gold.

I believe both are interesting pieces and beautifully crafted. They show us that the simple shape of the past can influence a silhouette of the future.
